The Center for Governance and Culture in Europe at the University of St. Gallen (GCE-HSG) announces the call for research dissemination grants. The scheme provides funding to support the sharing of academic findings to a broader public. The grant program is a part of the project “Promotion of Cooperation in the Humanities and Social Sciences between Switzerland and the States of the Black Sea Region” funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation.

We will support projects with an interdisciplinary focus on border issues, bordering dynamics, and borderlands in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region. Scholars working on past and present physical, symbolic, and imaginary borders as well as lived experiences of border regions are especially encouraged to apply.

We particularly welcome creative dissemination of ideas that may include, but are not limited to:

  • artistic exhibits, performances, or festivals (both on- and offline)
  • adapting materials for different audiences (including translation into other languages)
  • interactive technologies (open databases, websites, interactive maps, mobile apps, AR and VR projects, etc.)
  • media events (e.g. interviews, podcasts, television or radio presentations)
  • audio-visual products (e.g. documentary movies)
  • educational aids and instruments
  • social media campaigns and projects

Please note the following activities are not eligible for this scheme: conference attendance; journal publications.

Grant
Applicants may apply for up to 5000 EUR to support their dissemination activity.

Eligibility
Scholars and organizations outside of Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region may apply, but they need to include partners and/or institutions that are based in the region. While the call is primarily aimed at academic research dissemination, we encourage collaborative projects with professionals outside academia (e.g. IT specialists, artists, journalists, film directors).

Project schedule
The dissemination projects must be implemented by December 1, 2021. Experience shows that this time horizon does not allow for conducting new research. Projects should therefore build on material already available.

How to apply
To apply for the program please send filled application form to uaregio@gmail.com by May 10, 2021.
